Overview
The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport offers a more sporty design than the rivals but at the cost of losing the third row of seats in the process. Aside from that, it is almost identical to its previous versions. Despite its shorter rear end and lower rooflines, the Atlas Cross Sport is still spacious for passengers and cargo hold. It also provides standard features like touchscreen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto-integrated, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Furthermore, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot allows occupants to stay connected while on the go.

What’s Newly Include in 2022
The new upgrades in the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport include the following features:
- There are no significant changes included.
Engine, Transmission, and Fuel Efficiency
2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 2.0-liter engine as standard and a 276-hp 3.6-liter V-6 engine as an optional. Both have an eight-speed automatic transmission and are available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The V-6 is the robust Engine, with ratings of 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined for the front-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive trim with the V-6 returns the same combined rating but drops to 16 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway.
The four-cylinder versions come with EPA fuel-economy ratings of 21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined for the front-wheel-drive trim and 18, 23, and 20 mpg for the all-wheel-drive version. On test drive 200-mile highway loop, the front-drive V-6 version averaged 25 mpg, nearly 10 percent better than the EPA rating.
The 3.6-liter V-6 Engine is slightly faster than a similarly equipped three-row Atlas, with the front-wheel-drive producing a 7.5-second 60-mph speed. The 235-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Engine accelerated the three-row VW to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.

2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Interior
What is the seating capacity?
The Atlas Cross Sport is a two-row SUV with five seats. It provides generous seating space for adults. The seats are comfortable and supportive too.
Interior Quality
The interior materials are disappointing; although the exterior looks luxurious, the cabin disappoints. We recommend looking at other possibilities unless a big interior is an absolute need despite a new steering wheel and stitched door panels. Adults should find comfortable seating positions in either of the SUV’s four rows of seats, but unlike the standard Atlas, the Cross Sport offers only a bench for its second row.
Cargo Space
With the rear seats up and folded, the Atlas Cross Sport has a lot of cargo space for a five-seat crossover. However, it’s a significant reduction from the Atlas’ standard of 96.8 cubic feet with them down and 55.5 cubic feet with the seats up.
Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation
All Atlas Cross Sports come standard with a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation and a reprogrammable gauge display, and SiriusXM satellite radio are all optional. Remote starting and analytics are available through VW’s Car-Net networking app.

Should I Buy a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport?
Yes. The Atlas is an excellent option for SUV buyers seeking a vehicle that can seat five people, cargo, or a combination of the two. Further strengths are a comfortable ride and the adequate capacity to fit three car seats in the second row. The cabin, on the other hand, is a little modest.
