2022 Nissan Pathfinder Review
Table of Contents
Overview
The redesigned 2022 Nissan Pathfinder features a high-quality and roomy cabin, an easy-to-use infotainment system, many standard safety features, and above-average fuel efficiency. The 2022 Pathfinder, like many of today’s three-row SUVs, wants to be a minivan replacement, but with a tough look and some towing and off-road capabilities.
To that aim, the Pathfinder will be completely redesigned for the 2022 model year, with Nissan hoping that it would put its three-row mid-size SUV in competition with category leaders such as the Hyundai Palisade Kia Telluride and Toyota Highlander.
The interior accommodates seven or eight people over three rows. Nissan includes a slew of driver-assistance and infotainment technologies as standard, with even more advanced technology available as an option.

Engine, Transmission, and Fuel Efficiency
The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, with a nine-speed automatic transmission; all-wheel drive is optional. The Pathfinder’s V6 engine is a good match for it. The engine’s initial acceleration is a little light, but it confidently scoots the Pathfinder around town once underway.
The transmission provides smooth and mostly quick gear changes, but downshifts can be sluggish sometimes while passing other cars on the highway. Overall, it’s much more polished than the continuously variable automatic that it replaced. It takes approximately seven seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
The EPA estimates the Pathfinder gets 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, which is superior for the midsize SUV category but not class-leading. Surprisingly, choosing all-wheel drive improves the Pathfinder’s highway rating by one point to 27 mpg.

What is the seating capacity?
The 2022 Pathfinder is a three-row, eight-seat SUV. Optional seven-seat configuration swaps the second-row bench seat for a pair of captain’s chairs with a detachable center console in between. The front seats are comfortable and well-cushioned, and they stay pleasant even after many hours of driving.
Taller passengers will have enough headroom and legroom in the first and second rows. The third row is suited for children and teenagers. The Pathfinder’s outward visibility is excellent to the front and sides, but it’s only OK to the back owing to the many headrests in the way.
Front seats are manually adjustable and have cloth upholstery as standard. There are options for power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, and leather upholstery.
How many Child Car Seats?
Depending on the seating arrangement, the Nissan Pathfinder features three to four full sets of LATCH connectors.
Interior Quality
The new Pathfinder’s interior is much superior to its predecessor, and it is now competing with some of the finest in its class. The dashboard is modern and integrated, and there are many soft-touch materials throughout the interior. Hard plastics are there, but they are hidden away in less visible areas. Overall, the build quality is excellent.
Cargo Space
The cargo space behind the third row of the Nissan Pathfinder is 16.6 cubic feet. That’s enough space for a couple of sets of golf clubs or two carry-on bags. However, when the third and second rows are folded down, cargo capacity rises to 45 and 80.5 cubic feet, respectively.
That should be enough space to store bulky items such as a patio set, love seat, or a season’s worth of mulch bags. But, it has less room than rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, and Volkswagen Atlas. A manual liftgate is included as standard. There is a power liftgate and a hands-free power liftgate available.
Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation
The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is available with an 8-inch touch screen as standard or a 9-inch display as an option. Both touch screens work well, respond quickly to inputs, and have straightforward menus. Both are accompanied by a plethora of dashboard buttons and knobs for audio and climate controls. This configuration makes it simple to change settings while on the go. Most notably, it can display a useful navigation view with turn-by-turn directions between the tachometer and speedometer.
- Standard infotainment features are an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 4 USB ports, satellite radio, and six-speaker audio.
- A 9-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, two extra USB ports, a 13-speaker Bose sound system, and wireless device charging are among the available infotainment options.
- Additional typical features include: Keyless entry and tri-zone automatic climate control are standard features.
- Other options include a remote start and a panoramic moonroof.

Should I Buy a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder?
If you’re looking for a three-row SUV, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is a great contender. The Pathfinder is a fun vehicle to drive, has plenty of passenger and cargo capacity, and is equipped with the latest technology and safety features. It also seems to be a little swankier than its $33,000 beginning price suggests.
