2022 Nissan LEAF Review

2022 Nissan LEAF

MSRP: $27,400 - $37,400

  • There's plenty of room for passengers
  • Easy-to-use infotainment system
  • a long list of standard features
  • Rapid acceleration

  • The driving range is less than some of the rivals.
  • The rear seats do not fold flat.

The 2022 Nissan Leaf boasts a user-friendly infotainment system and snappy powertrains. It ranks at the bottom of the hybrid and electric car class partly because its driving range isn’t as lengthy as its competitors. The 2022 LEAF’s significantly decreased price is a key part of its charm, but its mediocre range means competing mainstream EVs are more practical and worth the additional money.

The Leaf’s original battery pack provides just 149 miles of projected driving range; upgrading to a Plus model extends that driving range to 226 miles—better but not groundbreaking. Several mainstream EV rivals, such as the Chevy Bolt EV and the Kia Niro EV, come equipped with greater driving range.

The cabin of the Leaf is large and pleasant, and plenty of other high-tech driver-assistance systems, including a semi-autonomous driving mode, are available. Despite this, the LEAF is simply behind sector leaders like the Ford Mustang Mach E and the Tesla Model 3 in terms of attractiveness and practicality.

What’s Newly Include in 2022

The new upgrades in the 2022 Nissan LEAF include the following features:

  • Lower base price
  • A standard quick-charge connector and a portable charging cable are included.
  • SV Plus trim has more standard features.

Engine, Transmission, and Fuel Efficiency

The base model of the 2022 Nissan Leaf has 147 horsepower thanks to an electric motor and a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery. Those numbers may appear unimpressive, but the LEAF accelerates quickly. There’s also a 214-horsepower alternative model with two electric motors, a 62-kWh lithium-ion battery, and a greater driving range.

Leaf vehicles equipped with a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery get an EPA-estimated 111 MPGe in combined city/highway driving. Plus, variants equipped with the 62-kWh lithium-ion battery get 108 MPGe (S Plus) and 104 MPGe (S) (SV Plus and SL Plus). The standard 40-kWh lithium-ion battery in the Leaf allows it to go up to 149 miles on a single charge.

Upgrade to the higher 62-kWh lithium-ion battery for 215 miles in the SV Plus and SL Plus trims and 226 miles in the S Plus trim. The LEAF can be charged at home using a 120- or 240-volt power outlet or a public charging station. In addition to charging the Leaf at home, you can use tens of thousands of public charging stations located around the United States.

These stations can be found in parking garages, parking lots, gas stations, rest stops, and other locations. With a 240-volt connection, the LEAF can be completely charged in 7.5 hours and the Leaf Plus in 11.5 hours. A quick-charge port is also standard on the 2022 Leaf.

Using the quick-charging port at a DC Fast Charging station, you can charge the standard Leaf to 80% in 40 minutes and the Leaf Plus to 80% in 45 minutes. The battery is projected to last around 10 years or 100,000 miles if properly maintained, which is the term of its guarantee. To extend the life of your battery, avoid extreme temperatures and keep it charged between 20% and 80%.

What is the seating capacity?

Inside the Leaf, up to five individuals can sit. There’s lots of room up front, and the seats are comfortable, so adults should feel more relaxed. The rear row can also seat adults, although the center seat is better suited for children.

How many Child Car Seats?

There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the Leaf’s rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

Interior Quality

The interior of the Leaf has some nice surfaces, but the use of so many harsh plastics limits its overall attractiveness. You’ll need to upgrade from the standard trim to get a superior cabin.

Cargo Space

The cargo figures for the Leaf are outstanding for the hybrid and electric car categories. When the second-row seats are folded, there are 23.6 cubic feet of room and 30 cubic feet when the back row is folded. The rear seats do not fold completely flat.

Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

The NissanConnect infotainment system isn’t very attractive, but it’s simple to operate. You can use the touch screen to adjust volume, tuning, and climate settings, as well as physical buttons and knobs.

  • Standard infotainment features include an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker stereo, satellite radio, voice recognition, four USB ports, and Bluetooth.
  • Navigation, a six-speaker radio, and a seven-speaker Bose premium audio system are available infotainment features.
  • Automatic climate control, push-button start, and proximity keyless entry are also standard.
