The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class SUV, with a higher style quality than the boxy GLB-class, compromises some efficiency in exchange for a swooper roofline and added aesthetic appearance. The handling is agile enough to give some excitement on a bumpy road, and the turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers dynamic performance. Even with the GLA’s available all-wheel drive, don’t expect much off-road performance.
Inside, you’ll find all of Mercedes-infotainment, Benz’s luxury, and convenience technologies found in its larger SUVs. The new 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA-class is 3.6 inches taller and 1 inch wider than the previous model. It has a more upright, SUV-like design, yet it retains a beautiful glow to attract younger buyers. Sleek headlights, a single-bar grille, massive front air vents, large taillights, dual-exhaust headlights, and more are all part of this design.

Engine, Transmission, and Fuel Efficiency
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 221 horsepower and is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard. According to the EPA, the GLA250 is projected to get 25 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. In all three criteria, the all-wheel-drive GLA250 4Matic’s fuel efficiency estimates are 1 mpg lower. Mercedes claims that it will add a plug-in hybrid version to the lineup in the future.
An all-wheel-drive GLA250 4Matic recorded a 6.3-second time from zero to 60 mph on the test track. Despite its brisk performance, the time is slower than the previous generation model, which completed the test in 5.7 seconds. While the suspension on the 2022 GLA250 hasn’t lost all of its agility in the redesign, it is noticeably more compliant over rough parts of the road, which is a nice upgrade over the previous model.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class Interior
What is the seating capacity?
This Mercedes crossover has a seating capacity of five people. Like the previous model, the all-new GLA features a lot of space up front and plenty of head and legroom in the back for adults to ride comfortably.
The previous-generation GLA-cramped class’s cabin was one of the most common complaints. With the latest generation model, Mercedes has addressed this issue. Passengers in the back seat have nearly five inches more legroom, as well as more space for their shoulders and elbows.
The cargo capacity increased over the previous model, and the back seats fold flat; the cargo floor is now flush with the dashboard, making it easier to slide heavier pieces into and out of the trunk. The GLA250 fits six of our carry-on baggage under the rear seats on test driving, one more than the previous generation model.
Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation
The MBUX infotainment system from Mercedes-Benz is standard on the GLA-class. Two 7.0-inch displays are standard on base versions, one for the driver’s gauge display and the other for the infotainment system. Optional dual 10.3-inch displays are available. The touchscreen, voice commands, and the touchpad controller in the center console can all control the system. Navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, a head-up display, and a Burmester premium audio system are options. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
Should I Buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class?
Yes, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is an excellent luxury subcompact SUV. If you want to drive fast, the base engine provides good acceleration, and there are two performance-oriented variants available. It provides a smooth and comfortable ride. Inside, both rows of seats are roomy, and an intuitive infotainment system tops the features list. However, there are a few areas where the GLA falls short of its competitors. The interior is a step below the most lavish cabins in the class, and it isn’t the most exciting to drive a small crossover. Passengers will notice outside noise at highway speeds, and cargo space behind the rear seats is below average.
