Overview

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is a compact and elegant car with excellent driving dynamics in sleek packaging. When the first-generation CLA was the most economical Mercedes-Benz model sold in the United States, we were never sold on its styling, but the A-Class proportions won us over. As a continuity, we expect the Mercedes-Benz A-Class in 2022 to retain its existing style. It means that unlike the CLA-Class it replaced, the interior will keep its more classic sedan look. With its large hood, low overhangs, thin headlights, optional 19-inch wheels, and swoopy roofline, we expect the A-Class to have a touch of sportiness despite its more traditional sedan appearance.

What’s Newly Include in 2022

  • There are no significant changes included.

Engine, Transmission, and Fuel Efficiency

2022 Mercedes-Benz A-Class comes standard with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that cranks out 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque.  It features a standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Also, it comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available. When driving an A-Class, you certainly don’t feel like you’re driving a small hatchback. Everything about it has a larger, more opulent feel it. It’s a firm and comfortable ride on the road. Noise is often kept to a minimum, resulting in a consistently enjoyable driving experience.

On the base trim, the fuel efficiency is good. The 2021 A-Class gets a decent 24/35 mpg in the city and highway, respectively. Even the entry-level Mercedes-Benz A220 accelerates swiftly. In our tests drive, the FWD variant reached 60 mph in 6.8 seconds from a standstill. For the AWD version, the time dropped to 6.2 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG A35 performance sedan, exclusively available with all-wheel drive, considerably reduces the 0-60-mph time. In our tests, we were able to get a time of 4.4 seconds.

What is the seating capacity?

It has enough space for five adults. The legroom in the A-Class is substantial, with 41.8 inches in the front and 33.9 inches in the back.

Interior Quality

The interior is attractive, and the optional dual 10.3-inch displays bring S-Class technology to the cabin. The A-Class is slightly more sluggishly sprung than we’d like for a car in the subcompact luxury segment.  The overall quality of materials within the automobile isn’t as good as in most other Mercedes models. Even so, the 2022 A-Class has a lot to like, especially the hot AMG models with powerful drivetrains.

Cargo Space

The trunk space in the A-Class is a modest 8.6 cubic feet. Its stablemate, the swoopy CLA-Class, shares a platform with three cubic feet less. The A-Class also falls short of Cadillac’s CT4, which boasts a load capacity of 10.7 cubic feet.

Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

Mercedes-Benz features dual 7.0-inch displays as standard, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Automobile connectivity. The Mercedes-AMG A35 comes standard with two 10.3-inch screens, which may be added to the base A220 model. Mercedes-MBUX Benz’s infotainment software with augmented reality is also a Sedan option for the A220 and is standard on AMG variants. The A-Class features a six-speaker audio system and five standard USB-C connectors. As an option, a 12-speaker Burmester premium system is available.

Should I Buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz A-Class?

Yes, you should if you can afford the price tag. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is the firm’s smallest and most affordable Sedan, and it impresses with its on-brand appearance and decent acceleration, even with the base engine. This Sedan stands out thanks to its outstanding fuel economy, luxurious interior, and cutting-edge entertainment system. It’s also fun to drive and comes with two powerful engine options. The A-Class, on the contrary, falls short in terms of trunk space and passenger space.
