2022 INFINITI QX55 Review

MSRP: $46,500 - $57,050

  • There are many standard safety features
  • Comfortable, supportive seats

  • Ride and handling are disjointed
  • Ineffective infotainment system
  • Transmission is unrefined

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 has a good array of standard safety features, excellent interior materials, and comfortable seats, but its attraction is damaged by its uncoordinated handling, outdated infotainment system, and below-average luggage capacity.

Some will call it a QX50 with a sloping roof, but Infiniti is calling it the 2022 QX550, and its fastback design makes it an artistic addition to the Infiniti lineup. The QX55’s design is influenced by the brand’s stunning mid-size FX model that debuted for the 2003 model year, although it shares its platform with the small QX50 SUV.

It has the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the QX50, but it comes standard with all-wheel drive. The QX55 sets itself apart from the QX55 with sportier 20-inch wheels and a more aggressive front fascia.

Engine, Transmission, and Fuel Efficiency

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 is powered by the same variable-compression turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that powers the QX50, which produces 268 horsepower. All-wheel drive will be standard, and the vehicle will be equipped with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Because of our experience with a similarly equipped QX50, we anticipate that the QX55 will have fast acceleration.

Our long-term QX50 test car achieved a 6.4-second run from zero to sixty miles per hour and proved to be a comfortable-riding SUV with competent but not very sporty driving characteristics. The QX55 does not have any gasoline estimates from the EPA, and the QX50 has not proved to be especially fuel-efficient in our tests. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, the QX50 got a disappointing 27 mpg despite its advanced variable compression engine.

2022 INFINITI QX55 Interior

What is the seating capacity?

The Infiniti QX55 is a five-seat premium SUV with two rows of seating. The front seats are luxurious and supportive, and even on long trips. Taller people have plenty of room up front, and the high driving position provides good outward visibility to the front and sides of the car and good visibility to the rear.

The back seats are also well-cushioned, and there’s enough head and legroom for most people, though taller people will find headroom tight. The front seats are heated and have synthetic leather upholstery as standard. Genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are available as options.

How many Child Car Seats?

The QX55 comes with two full sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear center seat.

Interior Quality

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 is praised for its luxurious interior materials. Most surfaces are soft-touch plastics and supple upholstery, with a splash of chrome or wood trim. The panel fitting is excellent. The cabin also quiets most road and wind noise, resulting in a peaceful and comfortable ride.

Cargo Space

The cargo capacity behind the back seats of the Infiniti QX55 is 26.9 cubic feet and 54.1 cubic feet when these seats are folded. That’s on the small side for the premium compact SUV class, but it’s somewhat more spacious than direct competitors like the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. The cargo space is large enough to handle a few carry-on bags or a heavy item from a big box store. A power liftgate is standard, with the option of a hands-free power liftgate.

Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

The QX55 comes with Infiniti’s InTouch infotainment system, which has an 8-inch touch screen at the top of the dashboard and a 7-inch touch screen below it. The upper screen handles navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, while the lower screen controls audio, climate controls, and other settings.

Some functions are controlled by buttons on each side of the lower screen, and there is also a knob on the center console. Overall, this setup works well and isn’t as distracting as some competing systems, although it does appear and feel outdated for a modern premium vehicle. The graphics are low-resolution, and the top touch screen responds slowly to inputs.

  • 8 and 7-inch touch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, six-speaker audio, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hot spot are among the standard infotainment features.
  • A Navigation system and a 16-speaker stereo were some of the available infotainment features.
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, and a moonroof are all standard.
  • Other available features include automatic tri-zone climate control.

Should I Buy a 2022 INFINITI QX55?

If you’re looking for a premium SUV with a coupe-like design, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 is worth considering. Its main advantage is that it is thousands of dollars less expensive than rivals with similar stylings, such as the BMW X4, Audi Q5 Sportback, and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. The trade-off is that those vehicles are more fun to drive and much more luxurious on the interior than the Infiniti. Overall, the QX55 is a decent option, but it is not a top selection in this class.
