2022 Honda HR-V Review
Table of Contents
Overview
The 2022 Honda HR-V is placed in the top third of subcompact SUV rankings due to its dynamic handling, outstanding fuel economy, and huge cargo space. The interior is quite well-designed, with plenty of storage and simple controls. Another advantage is the HR-V’s great fuel efficiency, with the EPA estimating that it can get up to 30 mpg in combined city/highway driving.
Unfortunately, the HR-V has sluggish acceleration and a fairly loud engine. It’s also one of the most established models in its class. While many subcompact SUVs depend on unique design to attract more customers, the Honda HR-V, which comes in 2022, appeals to pragmatists with its understated exterior, functional interior, and innovative cargo-hauling abilities.
The HR-V is presently the smallest vehicle in the Honda range. Its unique Magic Seat second row folds flat to provide a spacious cargo space that can carry heavy items that larger crossovers would struggle to transport. The Hyundai Kona, the Kia Seltos, or the Mazda CX-30 are good alternatives for a sporty mini-SUV.

What’s Newly Include in 2022
There are no sufficient changes in the 2022 HR-V.
Engine, Transmission, and Fuel Efficiency
The HR-V’s four-cylinder engine is slow, loud, and unrefined, and the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) just adds to the engine’s incivility. Despite being equipped with front-wheel drive, the HR-V achieved a relatively slow 8.6-second time to 60 mph. The addition of all-wheel drive increased the delay even more, to 9.5 seconds.
On an EPA chart, the HR-V demonstrates that it is very efficient, but, in our real-world testing, it falls short of expectations. On the 200-mile highway fuel-economy test, the all-wheel-drive model we tested in 2016 got 30 miles per gallon.

2022 Honda HR-V Interior
What is the seating capacity?
Honda HR-V has two rows of seating for up to five passengers. There is a lot of head and legroom in the front. The back row offers plenty of legroom, although headroom is limited due to the sloping roofline. Outward visibility is also good.
How many Child Car Seats?
For the rear outboard seats, there are two full sets of LATCH connectors. The back middle seat has a tether anchor and can borrow lower anchors from the outer seats.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated this LATCH system the second-highest Acceptable score for its ease of use. The tether anchors may be difficult to locate and confused with other hardware, and the lower anchors are installed too deeply in the seats.
Interior Quality
The cabin of the HR-V is mostly made of high-quality materials with superb fit and finish. However, there are some obvious lower-quality plastics.
Cargo Space
The HR-V is Honda’s smallest SUV, yet it still has plenty of cargo space. There are 24.3 cubic feet of room behind the back row in front-wheel-drive variants. When the back seats are folded down, you get 58.8 cubic feet.
When all-wheel drive is added, the numbers lower to 23.2 and either to 57.6 or 55.9 cubic feet, respectively. Another feature of the HR-V is the rear Magic Seat, which can be flipped up and folded down in various ways to fit greater items.
Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation
The standard infotainment system is simple and quick to operate, with physical knobs controlling climate and audio features. By moving up a model level, you’ll receive additional infotainment technology, like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Sport is the only trim with an enhanced infotainment system, including physical audio and climate controls.
- A 5-inch display, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port are standard infotainment features.
- A 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, an extra USB port, Pandora compatibility, the HondaLink telematics system, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, and HD Radio are available infotainment options.
- Other features include automatic climate control, a push-button start, proximity keyless entry, and a moonroof.
