2021 Volkswagen Arteon Review

The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon sedan is as pretty as practical, with a hatchback body positioned as avant-garde styling. Unfortunately, the four-door’s fantastic appearance gets lost in translation when it comes to how it drives. Yes, it has a peppy four-cylinder turbocharged engine and encouraging input from the steering, but it can not match the tactile qualities offered by rival sports sedans such as the BMW 3-series and Genesis G70.

Although there is limo-like passenger space in the VW’s cabin and can carry a lot of cargo under its rear hatch, the interior is not almost as spacious as the most classy alternatives. Nevertheless, the Arteon 2021 is easily the most elegant-looking model to carry the iconic logo of the company, and it demonstrates that, at least for now, passenger cars remain important to VW.

The Arteon strengthens its head-turning ability for 2021 more than anything, more than a design statement. Even though it was launched for the 2019 model year in North America, it has been on sale longer in Europe. It was due for an update there, and there are stateside updates.

The most critical changes may be to the cabin, which we have previously criticized as not feeling unique enough to fit the car’s dramatic exterior. The restyled dashboard screen, air vents, and now-standard digital gauge cluster look offer a more premium feel. The Arteon is better to look at than it is to drive.  Other sedans provide better overall results, but few stand out like the Arteon.

Navigation and wireless charging are provided by stepping up to the SEL; the Premium R-Line features a powerful Harman/Kardon audio system.
