Review

The 2021 MINI Countryman comes with a variety of engine choices. It has a 134-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder engine as standard. The SE plug-in hybrid has the same engine as the S but adds an electric motor for 221 horsepower. Both the MINI Countryman S and John Cooper Works (JCW) trims of the MINI Countryman have turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The S produces 189 horsepower, while the JCW produces 301.

Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works are the three main versions of the Mini Cooper Countryman 2021. The Oxford Edition and the plug-in-hybrid Countryman S E are two additional Countryman models. Each model has a different powertrain configuration, and then there are three trim levels to choose from Classic, Signature, and Iconic.

The MINI Countryman has a more playful, sporty handling style than many of its competitors, making it more enjoyable to drive. Though the ride can feel firm at times, it strikes a good balance between agility and comfort. Furthermore, the brakes can be a little squeaky. 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, synthetic leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and a rearview camera are all included in the Classic trim.

Heated front seats, proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, an 8.8-inch touch screen, navigation, and Apple CarPlay are all included in the Signature trim. This trim unlocks several packages that aren’t available with the base trim. Many of the Countryman’s options are available in the Iconic trim, including wireless smartphone charging and premium genuine leather upholstery.

The Mini Cooper Countryman 2021 is nearly everything you’d expect from a Mini: a premium interior with whimsical styling and a go-kart-like feel while tearing down winding roads. It’s also pleasant to drive and gets good gas mileage. However, there isn’t as much cargo space as some rivals, and the price is significantly higher than the rest of the subcompact SUV class, but if those aren’t deal-breakers, the Countryman is well worth considering.
