Review

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R is placed at the top of our compact car rankings because of its crisp handling and roomy interior. Despite its wonderful bodywork, the Civic Type R is a powerful and efficient 4-door hatchback. The Type R is not just the fastest Honda Civic, it is one of the fastest sport compacts with a 306-hp 4-cylinder turbocharged transmission and a six-speed manual transmission (the only available gearbox) feeding the front wheels.

Its interior is not so amazing, and its red highlights make the cabin seem like a crime scene, but it is practically filled with reasonably large seats and ample cargo space. Besides subdued exhaust and loud, noisy highway performance, Civic Type R 2021 is now among the most enjoyable driving vehicle and winner of the Editor’s Choice.

What is the seating capacity?

Civic Type R seats up to four persons. The wide door openings of the Civic make it simple for drivers and passengers to enter the car. In both rows, you find spacious seats, even if the sloping roofline hinders the rear headroom a little bit. The seats are flat but nicely wrapped, and the view from the driver’s seat is excellent.

How many Child Car Seats are there?

The rear outboard seats include two full sets of LATCH connectors and a tether anchor for the rear mid seat. The Highway Insurance gave the LATCH system the second-highest rating for its simplicity of use. It is relatively simple.

Interior Quality

This Honda has high-end interior materials and is very soft to touch with its plastics. However, some reviewers remark that the quality of materials and the overall design of the Civic is not as up-to-date as class competitors, such as the Mazda3.

Cargo Space

The Civic Sedan offers a trunk capacity of up to 15.1 cubic feet, which is excellent for the class. The hatchback has even more storage, with cargo space behind the back seats up to 25.7 cubic feet and 46.2 cubic feet when you fold down the back seat.

Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

The Civic Type R has a barebones standard infotainment system but is simple to operate, mainly due to its handy physical knobs. The optional infotainment system, however, is not entirely responsive and requires touch inputs for most functions. This makes it more difficult to use while driving. On the incredibly high side, the updated system includes smartphone integration through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

  • Standard features for infotainment: 5-inch display, four speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB port
  • Available infotainment features: a 7-inch touch screen, Android CarPlay, extra USB port, satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, voice recognition, and an eight, 10- or 12-speaker upgrade on audio.
  • Further standard features: Climate automatic control
  • Other features available: push-button start, remote start, keyless proximity entry, automatic dual-zone climate control, and a moonroof
