Review

It is the largest, fastest, and most powerful GMC truck you can find, with the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD standing above 2500HD, Sierra 1500, Canyon, and the next Hummer EV. It was redesigned completely last year and adds a balanced 2021 healthy dosage. When we checked the new truck, one of its available powertrains disappointed us too much, but it can be a compelling performer if ordered with the right options.

The Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD, Ford F-350 Super Duty, and Ram 35 all compete with heavy-duty pickups. The 2021 Sierra 3500HD is intended to be workhorses rather than a show for the pickup truck. Although the leading Denali model from GMC looks glamorous and full of upscale features, it does not have the luxury interior it offers, like the most stylish Ford Super Duty or Ram HD. Still, with its Duramax engine developing 910 lb-ft torque and able to pull up to 35.500 pounds, Sierra has a more refined diesel engine.

The GMC offers an independent front suspension, responsive steering, and impressive handling, unlike its Ford and Ram competitors. Yet, compared with the regular Sierra 1500, the largest models remain far from agile. While the 2021 Sierra HD stands out from a host of ingenious towing assists and innovative features, it is still not our favorite heavy-duty pick-up.

2021 Sierra 3500HD Interior

Inside, the 2021 Sierra 3500HD is equipped with a huge dashboard and easy-to-use switchgear. The majority of the models have a split-fold with a pair of bucket seats and the complete center console. A class-exclusive head-up display, heated steering wheels, heated front seats, and wireless charging can be included in Sierra’s interior. The panel fits and material quality of the cabin are, unfortunately, mediocre at best.

The high-end Denali is weak in its luxury billing, despite the abundance of soft-touch surfaces throughout, and most models benefit from durable plastics. Thanks to a considerably higher look and feel, the most fanciful alternatives by Ram overshadow the GMC. However, pick-up truck buyers with priority for practicality and versatility will be pleased by Sierra 3500HD. The GMC is equipped with a handy interior cubby room, along with ample passenger space in the crew cab.

The standard and long cargo boxes on both sides of the bed have built-in steps, and the rear bumper has them on either corner. With LED illumination, mobile tie-downs, and a 120-volt socket, the box can be customized further. The largest Sierra heavy-duty showpiece is its innovative multi-purpose gate with six different positions, including a work surface and a bench. It’s a dream come true of a tailgater. Each Sierra HD is equipped with a standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto touch screen infotainment system. While models with fewer options are available, a 120 Volt outlet and a mobile hotspot are still available.

The majority of trim levels have a screen of 8.0 inches and additional charging ports. The rotary buttons and physical buttons are available in both systems. With enhanced navigation, Bose Audio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and an entertainment system on the rear, the larger touchscreen can be upgraded. GMC has a smartphone app to control trailer functions remotely. The infotainment system of the truck also helps users to store different trailer profiles for maintenance monitoring.
