Review

The 2021 BMW 530e plug-in hybrid is the version of the 5 Series sedan. There are two sub-trim versions listed. The BMW 530e is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and incorporates a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with an electric motor. The instrumentation on the computer is also standard, with displays adapted to the 530e. The BMW 530e has three additional drive modes: Auto eDrive, Max eDrive, and Battery Control, in addition to the regular Comfort, Sport, and Eco drive modes.

Auto is the default mode, while Max runs solely on battery power until the driver activates the gasoline engine by pressing the accelerator pedal. The driver can set a target state of battery power, and the car will operate to achieve and sustain it, possibly using the electric motor as a generator. BMW 530e has boosted the car’s capacity by 2021. It goes from 248 to 288 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

Besides, a new XtraBoost feature will add 40 horsepower for 10 seconds at a time. The exterior styling has improved, but it isn’t a significant improvement from the previous year. The revamped interior also includes accessible wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and larger screens as standard.

Subtle blue exterior accents characterize the BMW 530e, but the charging port may be the most visible difference concealed under a flap on the left front fender. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen is standard on all 5 Series models, and it can be controlled using the iDrive click wheel or touch.
