Review

The 2012 Volkswagen GTI is the hot version of the Golf. Henceforth, It offers a sports suspension, more powerful brakes, and a high-performance engine. The GTI delivers high performance and fuel economy, driving enjoyment from hatchback versatility compared to the many rivals. Though understated, it comes with sports seats and unique body trim. The 2012 VW GTI comes with two-door and four-door versions. Both are hatchbacks.

The rear seat and interior space are the same in both versions, but the four-door offers more availability. Four adults fit comfortably in both versions, though getting in and out of the back of the four doors is much more comfortable. The 2012 Volkswagen GTI has a well-balanced engine, and that makes it satisfying. Power is immediate and gratifying at any speed. It’s quicker than a Honda Civic Si. It’s not as fast as the hot rods from Mazda, Subaru, or Mitsubishi. However, it’s more refined than the Civic or the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

But it has better fuel economy. The strong torque from the GTI’s engine extends across a broad range, and it revs freely past its theoretical redline. Furthermore, this responsive power makes it easy and enjoyable to drive over a broad range of engine speeds, with a quick response on tap at any time. Our preference is for the 6-speed manual gearbox. The DSG shifts quickly, offering excellent acceleration performance. However, modulating power with the DSG is tricky, with a fine line between a little more fuel and a lot more fuel.

Changes for the 2012 model are minimal, simplifying the model lineup by adding a new model, called quite descriptively GTI Base with Convenience and adjustable powertrain sunroof, which makes previously optional equipment standard. The GTI was all-new for 2010.
