Review

An attractive alternative to more traditional compacts is the 2008 Volkswagen New Beetle. But unless you’re related to the trendy retro Beetle, you’ll probably want to look for a compact coupe or convertible elsewhere. As a two-door hatchback coupe or convertible, the New Beetle is available in two trim levels, S and SE. The Volkswagen New Beetle mixes unique appearance, quick performances, and a lot of fun appeal. But the sentimental attraction of the New Beetle does not make enough to beat the sports car class or the hatchbacks with greater usable space.

The new Triple White convertible begins with the SE’s standard equipment with a unique white exterior, a white-and-black interior style, exclusive badges for headrests, and satellite radio. It is easy to attach all models with a trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer. Except for a manually controlled soft top on S models and a semiautomatic power drop-top and wind blocker on SEs, the New Beetle convertibles are similarly fitted.

16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, heated exterior mirrors, power windows and locks, cruise control, a tilt, and telescopic steering wheel, remote keyless entry, V-Tex leatherette seat trim, satellite radio, and a stereo CD/MP3 with auxiliary input jack are included in the Base S coupe models. 17-inch alloys, heated front seats and windshield washer nozzles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a premium audio system, and a sunroof are networked to upgrade to the SE. It can modify any of these features as there are options available to the S trim.
