Review

The 2005 Volkswagen Passat is mid-sized and offers all the sophisticated German vehicle refining and technology expected. A four-door or five-door sedan with the option between the front-wheel and the four-wheel-drive 4MOTION configuration of VW is offered. Passat is available in three front-wheel-drive trim levels – GL, GLS, and GLX and two trim levels for all-wheel drives – GLS and GLX.

The GL and GLS come with a 170-hp 1, 8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, and a 134-hp 2,0-liter direct-diesel turbo-injected (TDI) 134-hp engine with 247 pound-feet torque is also available. The GLX has a 2.8-liter V6 of 190 horsepower. A five-speed manual and five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmissions are available.

The VW Passat gets upgraded standard facilities for 2005, including new high-quality GL and GLS leatherette upholstery facilities, front seats heated (GLS), and larger alloy wheels (GLS and GLX). Security upgrades include electronic brake assistance and brake stability control on GLS trims as standard. The W8 trim was also dropped from the model lineup of the all-wheel drive.
