Review

The 2005 Volkswagen GTI is available only as a two-door hatchback. The car is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbocharged 180-hp engine and a VR6 200-hp 2.8-liter. The 1.8T is standard with a manual five-speed transmission, while a Tiptronic five-speed automatic is optional. A six-speed manual is the only transmission option for the VR6. A few more basic features are included in the VR6 edition, such as a multi-function trip device, chrome exhaust tips, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Hence, it also provides specific options exclusive to the VR6, such as electronic temperature control, self-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, and adjustable interior lighting. Options include well-bolstered leather sports seats, eight-speaker sound systems, alloy wheels, sports suspension, power windows, doors and locks, keyless access, leather steering wheel, shift knob, air conditioning, cruise control, a complete collection of optional equipment.

Moreover, six airbags, anti-lock braking, stability control, front safety belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, anti-intrusion side door beams, and a deformable/collapsible effect steering wheel are safety features. The Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) is standard on the VR6 and available on the 1.8T with brake assistance.
