Review

The term Volkswagen was once synonymous with the most affordable, lowest-cost vehicles for purchase and service. The 2002 Volkswagen Passat was still powerful in 2002 but not the cheapest car on the field. The entire Passat line, with bolder contours and new front and rear light, was entirely re-designed for 2002. Its chassis is 10% stiffer for more comfortable riding and handling.

In April, the Passat W8 was sold as a 2002 model. The W8 model is named for the unique 8-cylinder engine, a compact engine with double V cylinders, and the W8 designation. This refers to a mid-size sedan with an 8-cylinder 4.0-liter, with at best a V6 for all of its competitors. This was the only European eight-cylinder sedan on the market at price under $50,000.

2002 Volkswagen Passat Interior

Anyone who knows Volkswagen can easily recognize the Passat Interior. The dashboard and the seating are tidy and stylish, harmonizing with the exterior. The arched over the instruments echo the roofline, and the soft dashboard matches the external metal sheet. Two smaller gauges flanked by the speedometer and tachometer look like precision instruments and illuminate at night with a cool blue light, which will make the peers desired.

It’s simple to get in with a silicone-damped handle over each door. Standard central locking and a valet key keep the guys out of your trunk at the car park. With time delay, both the front and rear lights compliment the interior center dome light. Doors are locked at 8 mph (the dealer will reprogram them) and open to save passengers in the case of an airbag. The Passat comes standard in addition to the standard front airbag, seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and side-curtain airbags designed to protect passengers in the front and back seat in the case of a lateral collision.

Sitting for a long drive is firm but comfortable. The front seats have a hand-crank recline that is variable but lasts longer and is more difficult to adjust. For painted interior surfaces, VW uses unique soft-touch paint. There are new cup holders and large storage space between the front seats. Two adult males will have adequate room in the back seat. Just outboard passengers have three-point seat belts. The rear seat cup holder is in a rear armrest with more storage, as well.
