Review

At a much lower price than BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz, the 2000 Volkswagen Passat gives some sports sedan attributes. This vehicle is an attractive alternative to the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Maxima. As a sedan and wagon, Passat is available. The GLS and GLX trim levels are either available. Two engines, two drives, and a front or all-wheel drive may be selected.

A 1.8T silky, smooth, 1.8 liters 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is available. The 2.8-liter V6 is available for Volkswagen on GLS V6 and GLX models. A sports suspension comes with GLX. The model line-up is almost identical for sedans and wagons. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard in all models standard. In 2000 Volkswagen offered a 4MOTION ($1,650) all-wheel-drive system. It is only possible with a 5-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission from Volkswagen on V6-equipped Passat sedans and vehicles.

Either the standard GLS trim or the high-line GLX all-wheel drive can be ordered. GLS models are equipped with high-standard equipment. GLX is a big step in the level of equipment. GLX comes as standard with the V6, a wood and leatherette interior trim, dual eight-way power-heated front seat, a controlled climate, a Monsoon Sound system, and a 16-inch pulling alloy wheel, a power glass sunroof. GLX is also available as a standard.

2000 Volkswagen Passat Interior

The cabin in Passat is attractive, comfortable, and efficient. There are comfortable and supportive front seats. Adjustable for the optional seat heaters. Visibility is extreme because when all three rear headrests are up, the rear windscreen is partially blocked. The steering wheel coated in leather is perfect. This dashboard has a sleek look, with rounded shapes and a distinctive instrument pod with the speedometer, tachometer, water temperature, and fuel gauges. The instruments have a red needle on indigo gauges in the night, which minimizes the glare.

Backseats are very spacious, with space for the front seats to slide your feet. Four people easily take this car. For short drives, a fifth person must be happy. Even for hat wearers, there is a great deal of headroom in the front seat, but rear passengers up to 6 feet can see their heads rubbing off the headliner – the only side of this elegant arched roof. The double front airbags and tensioners are standard, which are automatically applied during a collision. The second airbag in each front seat provides extra side impact protection. There’s plenty of trunk space and not the hinges in the trunk. A split rear folding seatback significantly increases cargo space.
